Various websites and mobile apps have long been connecting drivers with passengers and have been a great success in all parts of Europe. In most cases, carpool service users don't pay to find travel partners. The only costs are that of gas or potential tolls, and these are shared among travelers. However, creating and maintaining these carpooling platforms costs money and funds have to be acquired somehow.
As a user, are you willing to pay a small fee to help pay for these services? What are the services for which you are willing to pay?

I would be willing to if it was a service I used super often. Personally, I only carpool when going on longer road trips so no, I wouldn't pay. Although I'm sure there are free apps out there that help travelers find each other to carpool.
I think it's a good idea in theory. But, seriously, would I pay to use the service, maybe not. Goodies would have to be offered once in a while.
Thanks for the comments! Here is an example of a plugshare app for Iphone that was released a while back. Would you be willing to pay for a similar app that helps you find fellow carpoolers to travel with?
Hi,
good question! In our experience the answer is no. The web service http://www.liftshare.com has always been free and because of this has grown exponentially to 460,000 members. The liftshare mobile site http://www.liftshare.com/mobile is also free and lets users find matches wherever they are.
if the app is ad free, why not...
