We definitely can’t continue to exploit the earth’s resources as if they were endless. The planet just can’t sustain our desires for ‘ the good things in life’. Imagine what would happen if all the people living in China and India bought a car. We would need seven planets to sustain us all! So, I believe the solution lies in sharing. But the question is, are you willing to give up the luxury of owning your own vehicle to save the planet?

This is a serious problem that has to be addressed sooner rather than later. I was just in India, this past October, and I can clearly see that there is just not enough room for more cars. We were often stuck in traffic for 2 or three hours everyday. I really don't think Bombay can accommodate more drivers on the road. Maybe trams, bicycle rentals, a subway system, or carpooling services. I live in Manhattan and use the subway everyday. There is no need to own a car in Manhattan. Parking is extremely expensive, and traffic jams, like in Bombay, are hell.
I decided to give up my car and start using the communauto service we have here in Montreal. They're everywhere and they seem to be growing in popularity. I figure I'll be saving a lot of money and I will at least be doing my part to help reduce greenhouse gases. Here is the address in case anyone living in the area is interested.

Here is what their website says:
Communauto provides its members with exclusive access to its vehicles. By becoming a Communauto subscriber, you gain access to a fleet of cars that you can reserve at low cost for a half-hour, an hour, a day or longer, according to your needs. Located in the heart of your neighbourhood, the cars are available without delay, 24/7.
Maybe the solution lies in finding a cleaner, more environmentally friendly car. Of course, this won't address traffic congestion in big cities, but if traffic jams don't contaminate the air I breath, and don't eat up all our natural resources, I wouldn't have much of a problem with them. I mean, if people decide to waste their lives stuck in traffic, that's their choice--as long as they are not blocking public transit/ bike routes.
