We call it range anxiety ; in France they talk about limited range of the electric car. It is often seen as a brake on the electric car development. However, most of the electric models’s range varies between 120 and 150 Km, which is more than enough if we take into account that in France for example, 80% of car journeys are lower than 55 km.
Even if most of electric cars will be charged at home at night, it is necessary to offer reinsurance for charging infrastructure. Altogether, according to the french Ministry of Ecology’s forecast , about one million of charging points should be implemented in 2015 and almost 10 million in 2025. This could help to clear the obstacle of the range anxiety.
Do you have other ideas to face it?

We've developed a great tool, which is able to tell everyone who's interested, whether an EV is suitable for the individual mobility needs or if he/she better should chose maybe a PHEV or an EV with range extender.
The tool is an iPhone App (called "iEV", which will soon also be availabe for other plattforms), which allows the user to analyse his own driving characteristic, jsut by activating the app while driving (maybe for a couple of weeks --> the more drives done with iEV, the better are the results). It gives you a hint about the daily distances, the acceleration and velocity etc. and calculates the needed energy (battery size) of the EV of your choice (selectable in a library).
So everybody is able to test whether an EV and which EV is able to satisfy his/her needs!

@ bombardier:
I like your approach. Do you have any idea about the quantity of the harvestetd energy during the driving in contrast to the stop phases and the relation to the costs for the wireing? Are there already systems running?
Thanks

« Plugsurfing » is a community of electric vehicle drivers connecting to share not only public & commercial recharging station locations but also to offer their own private recharging outlets so you will never be stranded without battery power. This « sharing concept » idea was born in Berlin, out of the idea of couchsurfing, when young electric-car owners decided to share much more than their couch.
