Filmmaker and author Nick Rosen pitches his documentary series about people living "off-grid". Rosen has interviewed a variety of people who have opted for low-cost, low-energy lives, "free of the system". Living off the grid means supplying your own power and water, and managing your own waste. You may use solar or wind energy, or hydro if you live near water. Or you may dispense with electricity altogether. Off-Grid also has a more metaphorical meaning -- about stepping outside of mainstream society, the system.
